Juan R. Fiol, Esq.

Senior Trial Attorney

 

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Juan Fiol received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mr. Fiol also attended Tulane University School of Law where he received his law degree in May, 1985.

 

Mr. Fiol began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney with the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, in New Orleans. As an Assistant District Attorney he served as a supervising attorney in the Child Support Enforcement Division and later prosecuted criminal cases as a Senior Trial Assistant in the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. In addition to trying cases in Criminal District Court, he argued cases before the State Court of Appeals and the Louisiana Supreme Court.

 

Mr. Fiol moved to the New York area in 1989 and joined the Legal Aid Society as a staff attorney in the Criminal Defense Division. In 1995 he left the Legal Aid Society to start his own practice in the law firm of Fiol & Hershkowitz, a general practice with an emphasis on criminal law, civil rights and employment discrimination litigation. While in private practice, Mr. Fiol continued his commitment to the representation of indigent individuals as a member of the Assigned Council plan in Brooklyn.

 

Mr. Fiol has been with Brooklyn Defender Services since December 2000. He brings to the office a wealth of experience in representing individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
