Katrina Ann Butler, M.A., L.M.S.W.

Sentencing Advocate

 

Katrina Butler is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn. She attended Temple University in Philadelphia where she received a B.A. in Sociology. After graduation from college she returned to New York where she taught GED, Adult Basic Education and College Prep classes.

 

Katrina worked for several non profit organizations such as the Girl’s Club of New York, Advocates for Children of New York Inc. and Women in Need Inc. before landing a job with the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment services (C.A.S.E.S.). CASES is an alternative to incarceration program that provides educational, vocational and counseling services to felony offenders in lieu of jail.

 

After several years of dedicated service at CASES, Katrina was promoted to Director of Case Management. Her interest in Criminal Justice led her to John Jay College of Criminal Justice where she received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

 

Shortly after, Katrina accepted the position of Bilingual Sentencing Advocate at Brooklyn Defender Services where she works in conjunction with the attorneys to provide all BDS clients with appropriate social services such as assessments and referrals to mental health, substance abuse, vocational and educational services as well as advocates for them in Supreme, Criminal and Family Court. Katrina received her Masters Degree in Social Work with Honors from Hunter College in December 2008.

 

In her spare time Katrina enjoys traveling to Brazil where she works with local Brazilian organizations to provide food and clothing to the indigent children.
