Sara Feinberg, Esq.
Trial Attorney
Sara grew up in a seaside town in Rhode Island, where she and her twin brother spent their childhood splashing around in the cold waters of the Atlantic. Although she still harbors dreams of a life at sea, Sara has found herself very much at home at Brooklyn Defender Services.
After graduating from Harvard University in 2002, Sara tried her hand in several trades, including commercial fishing, construction, bicycle taxi driving, and filmmaking. Finally, while working on a farm laborer lawsuit in Los Angeles, Sara realized her true calling as a public interest lawyer. For this, Sara owes much to Dan Stormer, an inspiring and passionate trial attorney.
Sara attended Georgetown University Law Center, from which she graduated in the top 5% of her class in 2007. At Georgetown, Sara discovered she loved being in court when she tried an asylum case in U.S. Immigration Court and won refugee status for her Togolese client. As Sara gathered evidence about the Togo government’s arbitrary imprisonment of its own citizens, she realized the tremendous importance of checking the police power of a state. After learning more about the United States’ own discriminatory and unfair criminal prosecutions and their effect on poor and minority communities, Sara decided to become a public defender.
Sara worked for the Honorable Neal E. Kravitz of D.C. Superior Court for one year, assisting him on the most serious felony cases in the courthouse. Judge Kravitz’s commitment to finding the right answer in every situation taught Sara that almost anything can be accomplished with thoroughness and a refusal to give up, traits which she brings to her work at Brooklyn Defender Services.
